What brings you joy?

We had an intimate group meet-up at Joon in the Tysons area yesterday where we had the opportunity to hear members discuss our topic, ‘What brings you joy?’.  We began our conversation with issues that chip away at our joy, which ranged from global issues to family issues to even work related stressors.  It was wonderful to hear the differences and commonalities among our answers.  Reframing our situations into a more positive light while working on experiencing gratitude and being more kind and generous to others seemed to be an ongoing theme for the night.  A book recommendation was made, The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World, by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Douglas Abrams.  We also came to the realization that our topic could be summarized for Sikhs into two words, chardi kala, and that optimism is not just a fleeting emotion but a mindset that leads to resilience, personal fulfillment, and the ability to impact the world positively.  We rounded out our discussion by highlighting what was joyful in our lives, and Diljit Dosanjh was unanimously a part of our joy!  We look forward to our future dinner and discussions and hope that more of you will be able to join us next time.
